Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Steroids and other CDS, Receiving Stolen Property: May 21, 2012 @ 19:32 Hrs
Ptl. Jack Lyon was monitoring traffic on Route 23 North when he observed a 2009 Honda Accord with a temporary registration not properly displayed. Upon further check, the registration was expired from April 2012. The officer stopped the vehicle in the Stage One parking lot on route 23 in Pompton Plains, NJ. In speaking with the driver, Ptl. Lyon observed the odor of marijuana and inquired further. The driver, identified as: Nicholas M. Mirabella, 33 years of age from Whippany, NJ gave consent to search the vehicle to the officer. The search resulted in a quantity of marijuana, a large quantity of anabolic steroids and other prescription medication not prescribed to Mr. Mirabella. Also located in the vehicle was a backpack with a name of another individual, containing a laptop, and other electronic devices. Contact was made to this individual who confirmed the backpack was stolen from a bar in Manhattan, reported to the NYPD. Mr. Mirabella was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. Mr. Mirabella was charged with an Expired Registration, Uninsured Vehicle, Possession of over 50 Grams of Marijuana, Possession of Anabolic Steroids, Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle and Receiving Stolen Property. He was released pending his appearance in Municipal Court.
