Possession of Marijuana: June 23, 2012 @21:15 Hrs.
Ptl. Kevin Ricciardi was on patrol on the Newark Pompton Turnpike in Pequannock when he observed a 2003 Nissan Altima operating without its headlights. Upon stopping the vehicle in the area of West Franklin Ave and Third Street in Pequannock, the officer contacted the occupants. In speaking with the two occupants, the officer observed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle’s interior. The 19 year old passenger also exhibited signs of consuming alcoholic beverages. The passenger was asked to exit the vehicle and a search of his person revealed 3 plastic zip-lock baggies in his pocket. The passenger, identified as: Derek M. Coar, 19 years of age from Pequannock, NJ was placed under arrest. The driver was cited for Driving without Lights, and Mr. Coar was transported to Police Headquarters for processing. He was charged with Possession of CDS (Marijuana) and released pending his appearance in Municipal Court.
Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Maintenance of Lamps: June 24, 2012 @ 01:15 Hrs.
Ptl. Kevin Ricciardi was on patrol exiting Police Headquarters lot when a 1994 Mazda 626 passed his location traveling south on the Newark Pompton Turnpike with a headlight out. The officer stopped the vehicle near Virginia Ave in Pompton Plains, NJ and spoke with the driver. The officer observed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle and questioned the driver further. While speaking with the driver, he exhibited signs of possible CDS use and eventually admitted to ingesting marijuana. A search of the vehicle resulted in locating a medium sized zip-lock bag in the center console containing marijuana. In addition, a glass device used to ingest the drugs was found in the vehicle. The driver, identified as: Jonathan T. Sanzari, 20 years of age from Pequannock, NJ was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Maintenance of Lamps. He was released pending a Municipal Court appearance.
