DWI Arrest: On July 13, 2018 at 11:55 p.m., Ptl. Cesar Hurtado was dispatched to the area of Route 23 North for a possible drunk driver.  Upon his arrival he observed a maroon colored Ford van being operated on Route 23 North with the caller following behind it.  Ptl. Hurtado pulled behind the van and observed that the operator, later identified as Alejandro Cruz Juarez, 31 years old of Butler, N.J., was unable to maintain his lane.  Ptl. Hurtado made a traffic stop in Riverdale and contacted Mr. Juarez.  Ptl. Hurtado observed that Mr. Juarez displayed multiple signs of alcohol consumption and conducted field sobriety tests.  At the conclusion of the tests he was placed under arrest and transported back to Riverdale Police Headquarters for processing and breath testing.   Mr. Juarez was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, and failure to maintain a lane.  He was released to a third party and has a scheduled court date at the Pequannock Municipal Court.

Possession of CDS and DWI Arrest: On July 17, 2018 at 4:13 p.m., Ptl. Kevin Boone was dispatched to the area of Route 23 North on the report of a possible intoxicated driver.  The caller, an off-duty police officer, informed dispatch that the driver of a Toyota pick-up truck crashed into the center divider in Wayne Township and continued north on Route 23.  While responding to Route 23, Ptl. Boone was traveling on Alexander Avenue and observed the vehicle in question.  At this time Ptl. Boone turned his patrol car around and conducted a traffic stop on Michael Court.  Ptl. Boone made contact with the driver, later identified as Nicholas Kucharyk, 27 years old of Pompton Plains, N.J.  Ptl. Boone removed Mr. Kucharyk from his vehicle and began to interview him.  During their conversation Ptl. Boone observed signs of impairment and conducted field sobriety tests.  At the completion of the tests, Mr. Kucharyk was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to Riverdale Police Headquarters for breath testing.  After the breath tests were complete, he was transported to Pequannock Police Headquarters where a drug recognition expert evaluation was completed.  Mr. Kucharyk was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to install an ignition interlock device, driving while suspended, driving while license suspended for DWI, and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Mr. Kucharyk later gave officers consent to search his car and officers located 46 wax folds of suspected heroin.  He was additionally charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and released to a third party with a scheduled court date at the Morris County Superior Court.

Marijuana Arrest: On July 22, 2018 at 4:26 p.m., Ptl. Kevin Boone was monitoring traffic on Route 23 North.  At that time he observed a gray Nissan, which was failing to keep right.  Ptl. Boone conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, later identified as Chadwick Quinones, 24 years old of Hewitt, N.J.  After a brief investigation, Ptl. Boone concluded that Mr. Quinones and his passengers were possibly in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.  A subsequent search revealed the presence of multiple suspected marijuana pens and suspected marijuana chocolate.  Mr. Quinones was placed under arrest.  Upon further investigation Ptl. Boone located a suspected marijuana pen in possession of a juvenile passenger and suspected marijuana chocolate in possession of another juvenile passenger.  Both juveniles were placed under arrest and will be charged at a later date through the Pequannock Juvenile Officer.  They were released to their parents.  Mr. Quinones was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and charged with failure to keep right and possession of under 50 grams of marijuana.  He was released with a scheduled court date at the Pequannock Municipal Court.
