DWI Arrest: On August 7, 2018 at 6:36 a.m., Pequannock Police Patrol Officers responded to the driveway of a township resident on the report of a female who was passed out behind the wheel of her car. Upon the arrival of Ptl. Nicholas Schreck, he observed a female, later identified as Ronnie Accardi, 38 years old of Pompton Plains, slumped across the seat of her silver Scion, with her driver’s side door open and her legs hanging out. He reported that after several attempts to wake her up, she finally responded and was extremely disoriented. During patrols’ conversation with Ms. Accardi, they observed that she displayed multiple signs of alcohol consumption and obvious signs of intoxication. At this time Ptl. Schreck conducted field sobriety tests on Ms. Accardi and subsequently placed her under arrest. She was transported to Riverdale Police Headquarters for breath testing and then to Pequannock Police Headquarters for processing. Ms Accardi was charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving. She was released to a third party and has a scheduled court date at the Pequannock Municipal Court.
Eluding Arrest: On August 8, 2018 at 9:09 p.m., Ptl. James Dericks was monitoring traffic on Route 23 South. At that time he observed a motorcycle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed and confirmed the speed to be in excess of the posted speed limit. Ptl. Dericks attempted to conduct a traffic stop as he and the motorcycle entered Wayne Township. The motorcycle in question pulled onto the shoulder and then quickly accelerated passing vehicles on the right. Ptl. Dericks reentered the highway in an attempt to follow the motorcycle in question but quickly lost sight of it. At this time he ended his attempt to catch up to the motorcycle. Several minutes later Ptl. Dericks learned that a motorcycle had crashed at the Route 80, 23, and 46 interchange. Ptl. Dericks responded and found that the motorcycle was the same that had eluded him several minutes prior. The operator of the motorcycle was now identified as Nathan Nowak, 36 years old of Wallington N.J. Mr. Nowak was subsequently placed under arrest. Due to minor injuries, he was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson. Mr. Nowak is charged with eluding a police officer, speeding, reckless driving, driving while suspended, failure to comply with a police officer’s orders, and failure to exhibit a driver’s license. He was released to the care of the hospital with a scheduled court date at the Morris County Superior Court.
