13-027 Release Date: April 29, 2013   MVA results in DWI Arrest: April 27, 2013 @ 19:31 Hrs. Police responded to a two car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of the Boulevard and Mountain Ave in Pompton Plains, NJ. Upon arrival, Ptl. James Dericks was informed a 2004 Lexus RX was struck in the rear while slowing down for a red traffic signal for Mountain Ave by a 1992 Mercury Marquis. The driver of the 1992 Mercury was exhibiting signs of impairment and requested to perform field sobriety tests. After testing, the driver, identified as: John A. Weller, 69 years of age from Lincoln Park, NJ was placed under arrest. Mr. Weller was transported to police headquarters for further breath testing. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Careless Driving. He was released to a friend pending his appearance in Municipal Court.
