Melissa Florance-Lynch holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Seton Hall University W. Paul Stillman School of Business. Prior to serving on the Pequannock Town Council, Melissa served seven years on the Board of Trustees at “The Glens Community,” where she lived for 13 years before moving to Park Avenue in Pompton Plains with her husband Art in 2007.
She enjoyed serving that community and now has been representing Pequannock Township residents for the past eight years. She hopes to continue to serve the residents of Pequannock Township in the future.
I take great pride in this community and want to make sure it continues to be a place that is safe for our families, affordable to live, and has the amenities that our residents desire.
Melissa is a lifelong resident of Pequannock Township. She is a successful 20-year Broker/Realtor for “Realty Executives Exceptional Realtors” in Pompton Plains, where she is currently a Co-Broker/Manager. Melissa is a top producer and recipient of the New Jersey Association of Realtors Circle of Excellence Award for many years. She is a member of the National Association of Realtors, the NJ Association of Realtors, as well as the Passaic County Board of Realtors, where she serves on the Board of Directors.
Prior to her real estate career, Melissa was employed at Reckitt Benckiser in Wayne, working her way up from positions in Sales Forecasting and Marketing Analysis to Manager of Customer Marketing.
I love serving the residents of Pequannock Township. I have always considered myself a public servant. It’s what I love to do. I strive every day to encourage community involvement with everyone I meet, which only makes our community stronger.
Over the years on Town Council, Melissa has served as Council Liaison on many of our Boards and Committees. She has served on:
- Economic Development
- Environmental Commission
- Flood Control Advisory Board
- Joint Study Services Committee with Board of Education
- The Library Board
- Morris County Community Development Block Grants Committee
- Municipal Alliance Committee
- The Planning Board
- Senior Citizen Advisory Board
During Melissa’s first term, she served as Deputy Mayor in 2011 to 2013, and Mayor in 2014.
During her second term, she served as Mayor in 2017.
“During my time on Council, I have contributed to help stabilize our Municipal Taxes at an average rate increase of just 1.13% over the last 7 years. I am proud to support our strong police force, which keeps our community safe and am always proud to support our volunteers.”
Just a few of the project highlights since my time on Council:
- Continuing to make improvements to our parks and will continue to do so
- Continuing to strive to be a more walk-able community and improve those areas
- Elevated water tank project is almost complete, along with the construction of the new water main
- Hired an expert to help appeal the new preliminary flood maps
- Made great progress in the areas of town sewer projects and our flood elevation grant process is well underway
- Reports have been submitted to FEMA and we are waiting on a response
- Traffic and street improvements have been underway, with more crosswalks, striping, and signage coming
- Well underway with the Riverwalk and Trail Development Project
Shared Service Opportunities
I and the Council will continue to look for shared service opportunities with our Board of Education, as well as surrounding communities. We will continue to work on our downtown redevelopment vision and look for future opportunities and improvements for our Business District. During my time on Council, with the assistance of the County Freeholders, the Township was able to acquire the “Martin Berry House,” through the historic preservation grant process.
We look forward to this being an active historical landmark in our community for generations to come. I am also happy to announce that we have officially moved our Fire Safety Office to the new location of 469 Newark Pompton Turnpike, which was the previous home of Harry Henning, a Past Chief of Pequannock Township Fire Company No. 1 and Volunteer Fireman for 75 years.

When I took this role, I vowed that I would work hard for every resident in our community and will continue that mission. I will always strive for Transparency and being accessible to all the Town Residents. My mission has always been to make the best choices for our town and listen to what the residents want to help build their community. I will continue to Promote Economic Growth, Improve Quality of Life, and maintain stable taxes for all of Pequannock Township.
